Summer Begins
I really liked this book. It was one of the best books I ever read. I really liked how the book was set up and explained things very clearly. I also liked how it didn't spend a lot of time on one part like some books do. It wasn't confusing at all. Summer is like me at the beginning of the book. She doesn't like to give her opinions to anyone because she is scared that they will get mad at her. It deals with troubles at school, friends, and parents, which most teenagers do have.

I really liked the characters the author chose for this story. Summer is a girl who most people would think is a "nerd." I don't think I've ever read a book where the author uses a character like Summer. Rod is the opposite of Summer. He is the most popular boy at Summer's school. No one thinks popular people have it hard in life, but from this book I think they have it harder than other people. They have to be accepted by other kids and their parents and also do well in school. This book tells you both sides of these types of people. This book makes you think about what you go through in life.

I rate this book five out of five. It was an excellent book. I really, really liked it. I encourage you to read this book and see if you liked it as well as I did. Teenagers would love this book.

Terrific
This is a great book to use to work with your child a little (10 minutes) every day during the summer months to keep the basic math and language skills up to snuff. It has lots of motivating rewards built in and my kids actually agreed to do it, in order to get the rewards. It was also a good opportunity for me to sit down with each of them and learn what they did and did not know from the expected grade-level skills. And to focus on the short-falls. I have used each of the books in the series now for the last 2 years and will again this year.

Summer Time Fun Reading
Our youngest child has very little interest in reading and at times fights with us when it is time to read. When my wife and I showed him what we were ordering he was very excited and could not wait for the book to arrive. At first he was resistant to do school type work during the summer time but as he got into it, he started to really enjoy it. This book will most definitely help him to keep his mind sharp. We also feel this will assist him greatly when he returns to school this fall during the lengthly time off for summer vacation.

One of the Poetry Collections I Turn to Again and Again
Stanley Plumly is one of my very favorite poets, and one of my greatest influences. Three of the poems from this collection stand out in particular: "After Whistler"; "Promising The Air"; and "Maples". "After Whistler" includes such turns of phrase as "There in the calendar dark" which are words you feel physically and understand emotionally.

In "Promising The Air", Plumly describes a woman who dreams of a small boy and cries for him in her sleep, and he finishes the poem by dedicating it to her and "for the boy"-- which is a Stevens-like abstraction of acknowledging the real force and presence of the dream boy.

In "Maples", Plumly describes a vacation with his parents, the "honey moon" in the trees, and driving along the road in the dark.

I am describing all of these poems from memory because I know them so well; Plumly is one of the most important contemporary poets we have and deserves far more attention.

Summer Children: Ready or Not for School

A must for anyone with kids!
This book puts research behind what we have always felt...some kids are ready for school and success, and others need to wait. When most parents make an emotional decision in this area, this gives you facts to make an informed decision. This is not just for school decisions, but has amazing information on just raising kids such as the spiral of equilibrium and disequalibrium from 0-18 years. This has been a real aid in understanding my 3 boys as they grew up. I have given this book to many many friends and educators, and all are impressed.

My husband and I fully recommend this handbook to children and their educational success.

Cool and Refreshing on a Hot Summer Day!
This little book should be in every home bartender's library. It is filled with recipes for refreshing summer (and winter) drinks. From Long Island Ice Tea to Margaritas to Sangria, it has it all and much more! Loads of pictures, a section on suggested liquors and bar tools, and lots of easy to follow directions make preparing your favorites simple. It also has a section on non-alcoholic drinks for the designated driver! A great handbook!

Summer Cottages in the White Mountains
This book is a well researched and, to my personal knowledge, an accurate historical account of these houses. The description of the house that my great grandfather had built for our family was biographically accurate and architectually detailed. Beautifully illustrated. Having personal details of the lives of the people who built these houses adds depth and interest. A wonderful reading experience for people with N.H. roots and interest in turn of the century architecture.
